2007-September-Shanklin Camp

Shanklin ReunWighted Camp at Corf, September 2007 The leaders of my old group, 1st Shanklin (where I was Scout Leader in the 90s) had a reunion camp at Corf. All the regular suspects and a few friends came along. I took Hatty and wore one of my Jamboree Tshirts Stewart was one of the first people to ask for a photo with Hatty. You can see the Bestival and Jamboree Build Team badges (plus a couple more). I resigned as SL when I started a contract in Germany. "GI Joe" took over from me. GI Joe served in the US military as a Ranger (the equivalent of our commandos). East Wight D.C. Val brought her biker husband Brad.

2017 - Brownsea

2017 Brownsea Trip Hatty went on a trip to Brownsea with 6th Newport Near the Jetty on Brownsea is a convenient place for Hatty to meet a very famous head... And a familiar friend! Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is about 25 miles west of the Needles (at the western end of the Isle of Wight). It's where Robert Baden-Powell took a group of 20 boys to his first experimental camp for boys. At 8:00 am on 1st August 1907 BP blew a Kudu horn to summon the boys to the opening of the camp. MaC has a Kudu horn (an imitation one) which he took on the trip with him. He also took Sid the Scout - you can see Sid's story about the trip at https://sidthescout.blogspot.com/2022/06/6th-newport-trip-to-brownsea-island.htm l Ex-bugler Janet was the only one who could get a decent note from the Kudu horn!

2007-September-Bestival

Bestival, September 2007 Bestival Curator and Radio DJ Rob da Bank ran the first few Bestival events on the Isle of Wight. 2007 was the 3rd Bestival and, because it was also the international celebration of 100 years of Scouting, several groups of friends chose their old Scout and Guide uniforms as fancy dress. One group of friends had a commemorative badge made. They gave me one which I immediately sewed onto Hatty. Little did Hatty know what she was in for! As always at a festival there was some amazing headgear! Did you spot Phil Jupitus in hat and sunglasses? His parents live on the Island. One group of people associated with hats are Madness - including frontman Suggs ... ... and keyboard player Mike. What was this extremely suspicious looking individual doing at Bestival? (The one on the right)........ demonstrating and selling bubble wands!
